The New Frontier was imploded on November 13, 2007 after operating continuously since October 30, 1942.  The Frontier was the second casino to open on the Strip.

The hotel had several name changes:  Last Frontier; Frontier; New Frontier.  The casino closed its doors on July 16, 2007 (just a month and a half after this picture was taken).   Among its owners were Howard Hughes, and Phil Ruffin, who currently owns Treasure Island.

The Frontier Hotel was one of the few on the Strip that was pet-friendly; for a reasonable deposit in addition to their room rate, guests could bring their dog to Vegas and have it stay in the room with them. 

This was all that was left of one wing of the hotel building on New Year's Eve, 2007.   

Brandon Flowers, the frontman of "The Killers", bought the Frontier sign with plans to erect it on a patch of desert he owns.

The Frontier was imploded to make way for the Las Vegas Plaza.  The sign was still standing until December 10, 2008 when Steve Wynn requested that it be taken down prior to the opening of the Encore.
