Mandalay Bay

Mandalay Bay is the southern-most resort on the Strip-proper; it opened on March 2, 2000.  The Hacienda was imploded on New Year's Eve, 1996 to make way for Mandalay Bay's construction.  The working name for the $950 million resort was "Project Paradise".

Here the main building of Mandalay Bay is seen from Mandalay Bay Beach (the pool area).  Gold leaf was used on the windows to give the distinctive gold-coloring.

Mandalay Bay is 43-stories tall and has 3,309 hotel rooms.  Floors 35-39 are part of the five-diamond Four Seasons Hotel Las Vegas.

The famous Minus 5 Degrees Ice Lounge at Mandalay Place.  Inside, customers wear parkas and all the furniture is made of ice--the bar, chairs, etc.  Even the glass is made of ice!

A drink special of $25.00 might include a drink, a parka and mittens (check the actual daily drink specials for exact prices and details).

Mandalay Bay Beach--the pool area--including the famous wave pool,  a "lazy river" (a loop where guests can float along with the flow); a European pool, and three other swimming pools.  The pool area covers eleven acres.

The wave pool holds 1.6 million gallons of water and provides waves from two to four feet high every 90 seconds.

McCarran Airport from the 25th floor (in the center of the picture is the large LED television and signage for Mandalay Bay along the Strip).  While gold-colored on the outside, the windows shade everything with a green hue when looking out; and casts a green hue throughout the room.
